The Heritage Precinct consists of 16 significant buildings and a cemetery on 2.5 hectares of land, protected under the NT Heritage Conservation Act 1991. The Hermannsburg Historic Precinct is ranked as one the most important heritage sites in the Northern Territory.

To protect the values of the site, ongoing repairs and maintenance are required. In keeping with traditional conservation techniques, the process can be costly and lengthy. For example, the lime washing of the buildings requires traditional techniques, as contemporary methods can clash with and degrade the integrity of the original finish. Your entry fee assists in maintaining the precinct as a living heritage site for future generations to enjoy.
